glass needed for constructing or repairing a greenhouse

One thing that I loved about my house when we bought it three years ago was the greenhouse in the yard. I knew that it needed a lot of work, but knew that I would eventually get around to making the repairs and would have a wonderful greenhouse to spend my free time in. I had to do some research to find out about replacing the glass panels that had been broken over the years. I wanted to be sure that the glass I was installing wasn't going to stop the sun's nutrients from reaching the plants and that the glass would be durable and last for many years. If you are building or repairing a greenhouse, visit through my blog to learn all about the glass that should be used.

Moving To An Area That Often Gets Hurricanes? What You Should Know About Impact Windows

Vicente Morales

If you are moving to an area that often gets hurricanes, you should know of ways to keep you and your family safe during high winds. One way to do this is to install impact windows. Below is information about these windows so you can get them installed on your home.

Impact Windows

Impact windows have impact resistant glass. This gas is laminated and uses a special glazing process make it strong and durable.

The windows are made of two panes of glass. The two frames are bonded together with an inter layer of polyvinylbutyral. If the wind does break a window it will break in small pieces instead of large shards of glass. Large pieces of glass can greatly injure someone and could cause death. Small pieces of glass may cause small cuts if you are close to the window but you would not be injured more than this.

Because impact windows have two panes of glass this helps make your home more energy efficient as air would not get through the glass.

Impact Windows Frames

Impact windows have a much heavier frame than traditional windows. This is because it is important that the frame hold well if there are high winds. When it comes to frames you have the option of choosing vinyl, steel, wood, or heavy-duty aluminum. If you choose aluminum, you can have it painted with electrostatic paint. This type of paint lasts longer and requires less maintenance.

The frame depth is important and should be between approximately two to three inches for windows. If you have sliding doors the frames should be approximately five to six inches thick.

Impact Resistant Window Styles

If the windows you currently have are old now would be a good time to replace them. There are different styles of impact resistant windows that you can choose from. For example, you can choose single hung or double hung windows. You can also choose sliding, picture, casement and stationary windows.

One feature you should choose for in the windows is glass that has a tint to reduce heat that comes into your home. Even a light tint will greatly help with this. This also prevents sun shining into the window, which can cause carpet and furniture to fade, and heat up your home causing your HVAC unit to run more.

The company you hire to install your impact resistant windows can give you much more information about them.
