As long as you put fabric sleeves on your coffee mugs, you normally won't have any problems with maintaining a glass coffee table in your living room for a long time. However, if your living room tends to be more crowded than average with both people and other objects besides the coffee table, you should be very cautious in order to protect the glass. Make sure to consider these three things when you're looking to put a glass coffee table in your living room.
How Many Children Or Pets You Have
The more children or pets you have that could press their hands or paws on the table and create scratches, the more wary you should be about getting a glass coffee table. Even if you put a piece of fabric over most of the glass, a paw or hand could easily grab onto the fabric and throw it off.
If you must have a glass coffee table under these conditions, take the time to teach your children to stay away from the coffee table. If your dog tends to be hyperactive, take it to a dog trainer in an effort to calm it down and decrease the threat to your coffee table.
The Location Of Any Recliners In The Room
If you have any recliners in the room, make sure that they're as far away from your glass coffee table as possible. This is important because someone getting in and out of a recliner could scrape their feet on the coffee table. If the person is wearing shoes, a scratch is an almost certain result of this event.
Try to only have open loveseats or regular sofas in the vicinity of the coffee table. Make sure any recliner is in full view of the room's TV so that no one will be tempted to move it.
How Often You're Going To Prepare Snacks For Guests
Be careful when you want to put a lot of snack bowls on the coffee table in order to feed guests. It's a good idea to put a thick bathroom towel on the table beforehand to ensure that none of the bowls scratch the glass.
Also, when you're placing the bowls, make sure that they're as far away from each other as possible to prevent any of them from clanking against each other in an unpredictable manner.
